The game that defined the survival-horror genre is back! Check out the remastered HD version of Resident Evil. In 1998 a special forces team is sent to investigate some bizarre murders on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Upon arriving they are attacked by a pack of blood-thirsty dogs and are forced to take cover in a nearby mansion. But the scent of death hangs heavy in the air.
Supplies are scarce as they struggle to stay alive. Graphics. More detailed graphics that retain the horror.
The environments come alive with detail thanks to resolution upgrades and non-static 3D models. Post-processing effects like Bloom filters, which were not easy to do at the time of the original release, have been added to make the HD graphics even more realistic. High-Resolution Environments - We've increased the resolution of the background environments by recreating them with a mix of high-res static images, plus animated 3D models. Widescreen Support. Widescreen (16:9) is supported, so players can experience a greater sense of immersion. In widescreen mode, the screen will scroll. The parts of the screen that get cut off on the top and bottom will scroll into view automatically depending on the character's position.
You can switch the display mode during gameplay in real time. Sound & New Controls. High-Quality Sound - The audio has been remastered to increase the sampling rate, and of course 5.1ch output is also now supported. New Controls. You can play using the original control scheme or an alternate control scheme that lets you just push the analog stick to move in the direction you want to go.

Extremely doubtful. Art assets are usually what ends up taking the least amount of space. And considering the terrible quality of most of the FMVs, I'm going to guess that it's not those either since they seem ripped straight from the GC version. Usually what ends up leading to disgustingly huge filesizes is uncompressed audio, so that's what I'm betting on.
I wish they would give you the option to download 2 versions, one with compressed audio and one without, because honestly to me it's not worth the space on my hard drive just for that. Originally posted by:17gigs = PC cutscenes stored in 3 different quality levels. They could have REALLY put the money elsewhere. Source: x2 aspect ratio. That makes it 6 different versions of every single cutscene.
That sounds pretty excessive if that's actually the case. I read in that article before buying the game that the FMVs are best in the pc release though, as they are stored as 20mbps (bluray quality.) I thought the cutscenes look pretty nice, I actually watched the opening cutscene 3 times before playing because I thought it looked amazing and really set the tone for the game. Yes, some cutscenes/angles look worse than others. I'm not blind- the iconic and most visited places received the biggest facelifts while others got the short end of the stick.

However, no matter how rough something looks, they've definitely been worked on, albeit very sloppily. There is no way 480p Gamecube-era backgrounds and videos look anywhere near the video/image quality we have in this remaster. You might think something looks rough compared to modern games, but compare REmaster to REmake and you will definitely see a big difference. You might think something looks rough compared to modern games, but compare REmaster to REmake and you will definitely see a big difference. Except 480p Gamecube era is exactly how I would describe the 2 cutscenes I mentioned before.
I played through REmake the night before REmaster came out because I was excited and those cutscenes are literally exactly the same. Hell, even how they look compared to the other cutscenes is proof enough that all they did was blow it up, because the other ones that they actually DID go back and re-render at a proper resolution look great. Stretching a video to 1080 vertical lines, slapping some black bars on the sides, recompiling it and trying to say HEY LOOK ITS 1080p NOW is NOT 'work,' it's laziness. Originally posted by:^ Personnaly, I don't care they remade the cutscenes or not.
They could have found a way to spare us the 17 Gb download and making the custscenes just stretch to the windows. I'm sure the game is no more than 5/6Gb without all the video stuff. I actually just looked at the folder size, and the entierty of the movies folder is 6gb, even with all the multiple versions of every cutscene. It's not movies. Capcom didn't even do any work on half the FMVs to begin with, as I said before. Originally posted by:Oh!
I finally realized what scenes you're talking about. I thought you were complaining about the opening and the draining water from the mansion bathtub cutscene because those are beautifully pre-rendered and rendered realtime, respectively. Okay, yes, the draining of the water with the crank and the lab fountain scene were ripped straight out of GC and look ugly as hell. There are no excuses for that. Sorry for the misunderstanding. NP man, like I said I'm not claiming that REmaster looks bad or anything, quite the contrary, I think it's easily the best version.
I'm just saying that the filesize can't possibly be from cutscenes because half of them were basically just ripped from the GC version.
